Benefiting from the market potential of post-Soviet countries, after opening an office in Georgia, SOCAR opened a representative office in Ukraine in 2008. The aim is to promote the wholesale and retail sale of oil and gas products, as well as crude oil in the country. In 2010, the company entered the country’s wholesale market and launched the supply of local enterprises in various sectors with oil and gas products. The company operates in the country together with SOCAR Ukraine Trading House, which imports gas to Ukraine.
In 2011, 7 petrol stations were opened under the SOCAR brand in Mykolayiv and Odessa regions of Ukraine, laying the foundation for retail business in the market. In 2012, SOCAR Energy Ukraine (SOCAR Ukraine) established SOCAR Trans to transport oil and gas products. The company is also a major Ukrainian gas importer. In 2017, the company entered the country’s wholesale natural gas market, where it soon became the country’s leader gas importer, carrying inwards more than 1bn m3 of gas in 2017 and 2018 alone and selling it to different enterprises.
In October 2014, only three years after its opening, SOCAR Ukraine was operating 40 petrol stations in the country. By the beginning of 2021, this figure had risen to 58 petrol stations, including 13 in Kyiv.
The petrol station network offers Nano diesel, 95 and 98-octane petrol in accordance with European standards. The peculiarity of the fuel offered by SOCAR Ukraine’s petrol stations is that it simplifies the operation of the engine, protects the fuel system from corrosion, allows it to cover longer distances and reduce emissions. At petrol stations, customers can use a 24/7 business corner with free internet, chargers for mobile phones and printers, view airlines and rail schedules, taste delicious food and drinks from Buta café and buy products from best international brands in Buta Market. Petrol stations are where drivers can pay with SOCAR Pay cards and gain bonuses with SOCAR Level loyalty card via the app without leaving the car.
