The High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) Plant is one of the production facilities of SOCAR Polymer, which was established on 16 July 2013. The foundation of the HDPE Plant was laid in October 2015 by President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev. The plant was commissioned on 18 February 2019 at an opening ceremony attended by President Ilham Aliyev.
The HDPE Plant is the final link in an integrated economic value chain that also includes the Heydar Aliyev Oil Refinery and the Ethylene-Polyethylene Plant of Azerikimya Production Union. Linking these enterprises as feedstock suppliers to one another within a single value chain ensures their high operational efficiency.
Operating on technology licensed from INEOS, the HDPE Plant meets high standards in terms of production process and product quality. The plant has an annual production capacity of 120 thousand tonnes. To ensure the high quality of its products and customer satisfaction, the plant operates an on-site laboratory equipped with state-of-the-art equipment that carries out a range of tests 24/7.
The HDPE Plant produces approximately 15 grades of high-density polyethylene, which are included in the annual production plan according to market demand. These grades are processed by extrusion, blow molding, injection molding and other methods into products for various purposes. For example, HM0359PE, a carbon black compound grade, is used in the production of water, gas and industrial pressure pipes, as it has high hardness and resistance to environmental impact and meets the requirements of the global PE100 standard.
The natural grade HM0349PE, another of the plant's products, is designed for pressure pipe production. The HDPE Plant also produces HD0856MO, HD1556MO, HD2556MO, HD4056MO, HD9056MO and similar grades, which are used to produce caps and closures of various sizes for packaging carbonated and non-carbonated water and for the non-food industry. The HL1050BF grade is used to produce polyethylene bags for everyday use, as well as insulation materials for greenhouses and other structures. The HD0358BM grade is used to produce household chemical products and high-rigidity containers of up to 30 liters for packaging various oils, food and pharmaceutical products.
During 2019–2023, the HDPE export geography covered a total of 14 countries, including Türkiye, China, Austria, Poland, Bulgaria, Lithuania, the Netherlands and Peru, as well as several CIS countries.
