Energy transition

SOCAR strives to develop projects on energy transition to contribute to environmental security in Azerbaijan and the world. The company cooperates with leading international companies to provide integrated solutions for energy transition, renewable energy sources, “green hydrogen”, carbon capture, use and storage, and emission credit trading activities.

The following directions for energy transition have been defined based on the Corporate Strategy of SOCAR until 2035:

Hydrogen

The company studies production of hydrogen, a new type of energy, and its export potential through the existing transport infrastructure of SOCAR and Azerbaijan. Using hydrogen gas as an energy carrier for the elimination of carbon emissions, activities in meeting the global demand for hydrogen, taking into account fuel in vehicles and other potential application areas, are being successfully continued.

Carbon capture, disposal and storage projects

The company carefully studies the application possibilities of CCUS technology, which is considered an effective means of preventing and capturing carbon (CO2) emissions generated in oil-gas, petrochemical operations, as well as other industries.

Renewable energy sources

As an energy company, SOCAR intends to ensure a sustainable supply of energy carriers through investments in renewable green energy sources. It plans to export the natural gas saved by increasing the energy efficiency of production and meeting part of the demand through renewable green energy sources.

Electric vehicles

SOCAR makes an invaluable contribution to the improvement of the environmental situation by installing electric vehicles charging points at fuel stations operating in the country and abroad, expanding the network, and accelerating the transition to environmentally friendly electric vehicles.

Prioritisation of activities in low-carbon areas such as biofuel production, recycling of plastic waste, production of biopolymers, etc., and preparation of a long-term road map will help ensure environmental security.
