Baku Olimpic Stadium


Baku Olympic Stadium (BOS) is the largest stadium in Azerbaijan designed and built around Boyukshor Lake in accordance with international standards of UEFA, FIFA and IAAF. The foundation stone of BOS was laid on June 6, 2011 and it is the 45th largest stadium in the world with a capacity of 68,700 spectators. Construction of 225,000 m2 of the 650,000 m2 area was completed in February 2015. The six-storeyed stadium in 65.7 meter height was put into use on March 6, 2015 and the official opening of the stadium took place on March 18 of the same year in the presence of Mr. Ilham Aliyev, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The main tenants of the stadium are the Azerbaijan National Football Team, the CBC Sport TV channel that brings national and world championships to our home, the GYM Olympiyski fitness center with an area of ​​1000 m2 and extensive equipment, the Olympia Fighting Club running in 5 different fighting styles (Muay Thai, Wushu-Sanda, MMA, Boxing, Kickboxing), 4 SPORTSTER mini-courts that are covered and serve customers in every season of the year, and representatives of the Premier League who are users of our natural grass-covered reserve courts.

The stadium was used as the main sports venue of Baku-2015 I European Games in June 2015, hosting the opening/closing ceremonies of the same event and the athletics event, the opening/closing ceremonies of the IV Islamic Solidarity Games in 2017, the UEFA U-17 European Championship, the games of Garabagh FC in the group stages of the UEFA Champions and Europa Leagues, the games of our A national team within the World and European Football Championships and the League of Nations.

Several hotels, a parking area for 3,617 cars and 81,574 m² of green space were built around the stadium. VVIP, VIP and CIP suites of the stadium have a total of 127 rooms and a capacity of 720 spectators, a specially designed interior of 25,200 m² and a parking space for 3,078 cars. A 1,800-seat warm-up pitch, the Data Center and 2 external buildings, design and engineering services were successfully implemented.

Having been a member of ESSMA, the European stadium safety organisation as from 2016, BOS has been included in the UEFA Elite Stadiums list along with Allianz Arena, Aviva Stadium, Nou Camp and Santiago Bernabeu of UEFA since 2019. BOS being the 7th best stadium in the world according to the voting conducted by the StadiumDB organisation has been an integral part of SOCAR structure since 2019. As one of 12 stadiums of UEFA Euro 2020, this stadium hosted a total of 4 matches in 2021, including three Group A matches and a quarter-final match.

The 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), hosted by Azerbaijan in November 2024 and considered an important event due to the number of participants and scale, was held at the Baku Olympic Stadium.
