Murakhanli Jafarli and Zardab Oil Fields
Agreement on Rehabilitation, Exploration, Development, and Production Sharing for Block Including Muradkhanli, Jafarli, and Zardab Oil Fields in Republic of Azerbaijan (“Agreement”) was signed between Zenith Aran Oil Company” (“Zenith”), SOCAR Oil Affiliate (“SOA”) and State Oil Company of Republic of Azerbaijan (“SOCAR”) on 16 March 2016 and with Effective Date on 11th of August 2016. The participating interests are as follows: SOA – 20%; Zenith – 80%. "Aran Oil Operating Company" is the operator of the project. The agreement covers an area of 642, 4 km2. Petroleum operations are underway in Muradkhanli, Jafarli, and Zardab Oil Fields.
Currently, all oil fields are producing Muradkhanli oil field is located on the North-East of Yevlakh-Aghjabadi plateau, 30 km southwards from the city of Kurdamir. The extinguished Muradkhanli elevation was discovered with gravity and magnetic and seismic exploration survey and was submitted in drilling in 1968. In 1971 commercially cost-effective oil was obtained from volcanic rocks of the Upper Crataceous deposits area.
Jafarli oil field is located in territory of Mil plateau, 7 km South-Eastwards from the city of Zardab.
The oilfield area consists of plateau, having and elevation (+8+14m) covered by recent sediments.
Gravimetric and seismic exploration work was carried out in the area from 1949 up to 1982 in intervals and the structure was prepared for deep exploration drilling in 1982.
Zardab oil field is located on the North-West side of Muradkhanli oilfield, on the bank of Kura, 7 km South –Eastwards from the city of Zardab.
Most of Zardab area is covered by marshland and saline soil.
The structure was discovered by the gravity and magnetic surveys, drilling was developed with the CDP method in 1975.
